FORBES: There is much to celebrate about the surprisingly robust $36 million, 11-day total for Sony ’s The Shallows. But beyond the whole “small fish in a big pond” thing, or the “Gee, reviews do matter!” thing, or the “Hmm, female-led movies do make money!” thing, there is one other issue I’d like to point out for a moment. The film, relatively speaking, exists as a rebuttal to the notion of chasing a release date at all costs. In an era when films, especially much bigger films than The Shallows, pick a release date before they even pick a title, the Blake Lively shark adventure switched up its release date at the last minute and lived to tell the tale.
